here in Australia though, you can’t.
here in Australia (Victoria at least) some of the F-series and Chev pickups require a light truck license due to the weight of them

In the US of Murica, you can drive anything up to 25,999 pounds GVWR. Because if you can pass our very stringing road test (HA!) that takes literally nine minutes, you can clearly handle a 26' long box truck.

these days here, 120 hours minimum supervised driving before you can ditch the learners permit, then the next 12 months you have a power and passenger number restriction (1 only, unless immediate family), then 3 further years of power restriction

Air brakes in general require different licensing, you can also very obviously hear them...it’s not like they are some easy aftermarket add on.

My test didn’t even take that long. I basically drove around a small mall in Colorado Springs.
Started out on Morning Sun, then right on Academy, right on Austin Bluffs, and back onto Morning Sun. That’s right, no left turns! When I parked the car it was just into a nose-in space. No parallel parking. The best part is on the very first stretch of the test, the speedometer in the car I was driving (my stepdad’s ‘84 300ZX 2+2) went nuts and indicated we were going 120 mph. I told the instructor immediately, and he gave zero fucks. Hell, at the start of the test he got into my car with my new license on his clipboard. I was really going to have to make a serious effort to fail.
I’ve never driven anything bigger than a 16' box with a van cab, and I don’t want to.

Mine was slightly more difficult. I had to take a right turn out of the mall, change into the left lane, make a left turn a few blocks later, then another left turn in a forest preserve. There I was instructed to pull over to the right, and was asked how do you park uphill with a curb. I was then instructed to make a three-point turn (on a road that was wide enough to easily make a U-turn). Then we drove back to the mall, where I parked in a nose-in angled spot. Done!

I remember even then thinking that it was pretty irresponsible to have the test be that short. But then I was done and proceeded to disappear with my friends for like 4 hours while we drove around everywhere. It freaked my mom out a bit.

I think I had to do 25 hours supervised. I had done way more, but that was the minimum. I think the minimum now is 50 hours, and they do have similar restrictions on how many passengers and night driving these days, but the actual road tests are a freaking joke and the limit for vehicle size remains the same. There has never been a restriction on vehicle power.

You posted an F-150. That’s a light duty truck. Here, try this. It’s an F-350 which as you can see, is available with a dual rear wheel, making it wide enough to warrant width markers on the roof and fenders. It has 450 hp / 925 lb-ft (335.5 kw/ 1254 nm) and can tow 13,100 lbs.
Once you’ve outgrown that, you can move on to something more serious, like this GMC Topkick.
